Antonio Valencia turns down deadline day approaches

Manchester United full-back and former captain Antonio Valencia turned down the chance to join both Newcastle United and Fulham on transfer deadline day.

The 33-year old Ecuadorean international has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford, and United were prepared to let him go reports The Sun.

However, Valencia, who is out of contract in the summer, turned down the chance to join either of the two Premiership strugglers, and will instead see of his time at United after which he can leave on a Bosman.

Valencia was first-choice right back under Jose Mourinho but fell out of favour with the Portuguese when he returned back from his summer holidays overweight at the start of this season. Since Ole Gunner Solsksjaer took over as interim managers, he has hardly got a look in, and, despite earning £100,000 a week, has not featured in the match day squad for United’s last five matches.
