Arsenal complete first deal of the Unai Emery era

According to The Sun, Arsenal have concluded their first deal under new manager Unai Emery, with Stefan Lichststeiner set to join Arsenal on a one-year contract – with the option of a further year – when his contract with Juventus expires next month.

The 34-year old Swiss captain has been at Juventus for seven years, during which time he has won 7 Serie A titles as well as 4 Coppa Italias.  He made 32 appearances in all competitions for the Turin side, but, despite this has decided to bring an end to his time in Italy, and instead move to London on a short-term deal.

Lichststeiner will provide competition for Hector Bellerin at right-back, and also bring an injection of experience into a backline that shipped 51 goals in the Premier League. He becomes Unai Emery’s first signing since taking control at The Emirates last week, although another arrival is set to be hot on his heels, with the signing of Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos said to be imminent.

Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
