Arsenal hold positive talks with Sevilla midfielder’s representatives

Arsenal have reportedly held positive discussions with the representatives of the Argentine midfielder Ever Banega about a move for the 29-year old to the Premier League.

The Daily Mirror reports that Banega’s agent, Marcelo Simonian, has flown to London to hold talks with the Arsenal hierarchy.

Banega, who is presently with the Argentina World Cup squad in Russia, knows new Arsenal manager Unai Emery well, having played under the Spaniard at both Valencia and his current side Sevilla.  Now Emery is looking to link up with the player yet again, as he looks for a trusted lieutenant he can trust on the pitch as he looks to restructure the Gunners midfield.

Stephan Leichtsteiner from Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen Bernd Leno have already been announced as new signings by Arsenal, and Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira is widely expected to be confirmed in the next few days, after the president of his current club, Sampdoria, let slip the news he had been sold, and the player began to follow the club on his Instagram account.

Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
