Arsenal linked with Ajax left-back

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Ajax left-back Nicolás Tagliafico.

The Argentine international only joined the Dutch club in January in a £3.5 million deal from Independiente in his native land, but has impressed sufficiently during his brief spell in the Eredivisie to make his want on to Unai Emery’s radar for a possible move to the Premier League.

Arsenal are looking for a long-term replacement for Nacho Monreal who is 33 next summer, and, with last summer signing Sead Kolasinic failing to impress, The Gunners are looking for alternatives, with Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno also said to be in contention, according to The Daily Mirror.

The team’s problems in the left-back area where underlined during Monday’s victory at home to Leicester when 34-year old Stephan Lichtsteiner was played out of position because both Monreal and Kolasinic picked-up injuries during training.  When Lichtsteiner was replaced mid-way through the second half, midfielder Granit Xhaka was forced to drop back into the left-back position to cover.
