Arsenal and Tottenham transfer target Ben Wilmot was pulled out of the Stevenage squad to face Newport on the weekend, as a permanent transfer is imminent, according to talkSPORT.
The 18-year old defender has been linked with a host of clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Burnley, Brighton and Bournemouth, but it is the two North London rivals, Arsenal and Spurs, who are thought to be favourites to snap him up.
Despite playing in League Two, Wilmot is already an England under-19 international, and has been the subject of several bids worth around £1 million, which Stevenage have turned down. However, it now appears that the club will listen to offers of around £2 million for the centre-half, with Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace saying “we have made public our valuation, and the closer we are getting to that the more likely it is that Ben will move”.
Without Wilmot in the team, Stevenage still managed to record an away win thanks to a goal from Chris Whelpdale on the stroke of half-time.
