Aston Villa are set to beat Championship rivals Leeds United to the signature of Lille winger Anwar El Ghazi.
That is according to SkySports who report that the loan to Villa has been agreed, with the potential to convert it into a permanent move as early as next January.
Born in the Netherlands to Moroccan parentage, El Ghazi joined the Ajax Academy in July 2013, and eventually progressed through to the first team. For whom he made 100 appearances, scoring 23 goals. He was sold to Lille for €8 million (£7 million) in January 2017 but, after a season and a half with the Ligue 1 side, the 23 year old has been deemed surplus to requirements in France, and has been allowed to leave for the West Midlands.
Eligible to play for both Morocco and the Netherlands, he allegedly chose the Dutch jersey after a meeting with Cristiano Ronaldo who convinced him he would have more chance to play in major tournaments with the Orangemen.
