Aston Villa want to re-sign John Terry

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce wants the club to re-sign veteran defender John Terry.

The former Chelsea and England skipper spent a season at Villa Park last season and captained the side that eventually lost to Fulham in the play-off finals in May. Shortly afterwards, with the club facing severe financial problems, Terry left the club by mutual consent, with the 37-year old leaving to help reduce the club’s wage bill.

However, according to The Sun, Bruce is trying to persuade the club’s new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens to sanction a new deal for Terry as he tries to solidify a leaky defence that has only kept one clean sheet this season, and which conceded four goals away to Sheffield United last Saturday.

Since leaving Villa Park, Terry has been on holiday mulling over his options, with offers to continue playing on the table from China and the MLS, and speculation linking him with a career in the media.
