Barcelona have been linked with a surprise move for Arsenal club captain Laurent Koscielny.
The 33-year old has just returned to training after six months on the sidelines after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in the Europa League semi-final against Atlético Madrid in April, causing him to miss France’s successful World Cup campaign.
However, he is out of contract at The Emirates next summer, and with new manager Unai Emery indicating that he will not be offered a new deal, he may be tempted by a January move to Barcelona.
The Spanish club are reportedly in the market for an experienced defender to provide cover at the Nou Camp in January, because of current injuries to both Thomas Vermaelen and Samuel Umtiti, and they have drawn-up a shortlist of targets, which is also thought to include Chelsea’s David Luiz.
Koscielny is Arsenal’s longest-serving player, along with Aaron Ramsey, but both are now set to leave the club as Unai Emery continues to shake-up the club.

He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
