Bolasie loan spell at Villa terminated amidst dispute

Yannick Bolasie’s loan spell at Aston Villa has been cut short, and he has returned to Everton.

However, there is some dispute whether this was an initiative on the part of the player or whether Villa did not want to continue with the arrangement any further.

The former Crystal Palace player agreed a season-long loan to the Midlands when Steve Bruce was the manager at Villa Park, with Villa agreeing to pay his £70,000 a week wages in their entirety. However, with the arrival of Dean Smith at the club, he has fallen down the pecking order and has only started two Championship games this year. Therefore, one version of the story is that Villa decided to end the deal early because they saw no future for the player at the club.

Alternatively, Bolasie claims that it was his decision to annul the arrangement, taking advantage of a clause in his loan deal which enabled him to terminate the contract provided he informed Villa by 20th January, which he did by text message.
