Celtic at loggerheads with central defender and his agent

Celtic find themselves at loggerheads with central defender Dedryck Bogata and his agent Jacques Lichtenstein over their refusal to sell the Belgian international.

The 27-year old former Manchester City player has fallen out with the Parkhead club after turning down a new contract, and has essentially gone on strike after they refused to sell him to Fulham, and also turned down bids from Greek side Olympiakos and Fenerbahce of Turkey.

Matters got worse when Lichtenstein made an unannounced visit to Celtic’s training ground, and was unable to meet with boss Brendan Rogers who had another meeting at the time. Rogers later tried to reschedule the meeting but, by that time, Lichtstein had left, and the battle lines began to be drawn.

That puts Celtic, who suffered their first Scottish Premier League defeat of the new season away to Hearts on Saturday, in a difficult position ahead of their difficult away trip to AEK Athens for their vital Champions League qualifier. With Boyata effectively AWOL and Kritoffer Ajer suspended, The Daily Mail reports they are likely going to have to rely on the inexperienced defensive partnership of Jack Hendry and Jozo Simunovic.
