Chelsea closing in on deal for Russia World Cup ace

Chelsea are said to be closing-in on the signature of Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin.

The 22-year old CSKA Moscow player has been one of the break-out stars of the World Cup so far, and has helped propel his country to a surprise Quarter-Final match against Uruguay this weekend, after scoring in their penalty shoot-out victory over Spain on Sunday.

His performances, both in the tournament and also in the Europa League last season, have attracted attention from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus, with the Italian champions entering into formal talks with the player, before negotiations broke down over the transfer fee.

Now according to the Metro, Chelsea are set to complete a £27 million fee for Golovin, even if the identity of their new manager remains unclear.

Maurizio Sarri is rumoured to be close to being unveiled as the new Chelsea boss this week, even though Antonio Conte is still nominally in charge, and compensation deals for both Conte and Napoli, Sarri’s old club, have yet to be worked out.
