Chelsea set to sell £40 million flop

Chelsea are ready to sell French midfielder Tiémoué Bakayoko after just one season at the club.

The 23 year old French international moved to Stamford Bridge for a fee of £40 million from Ligue 1 side Monaco last July, but endured a very difficult first season with Chelsea, as he struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, with one of the low points coming away to Watford, where he was sent off after just 30 minutes, whilst a number of his other performances were roundly criticised by the club’s fans.

Now, according to The Daily Star, his career in West London could already be over, after the arrival at Chelsea of former Napoli midfielder Jorginho, and with new manager Maurizio Sarri prepared to embark on a radical overhaul of his squad.

Bakayoko was once described by France’s World Cup winning manager Didier Deschamps as a “complete midfielder”, and the player will be hoping that a move away from Chelsea will see him recapture the form that earned him a Ligue 1 title with Monaco and add to his solitary international cap to date.
