City and United fail with bids for Italian defender

talkSPORT report that both Manchester clubs, City and United, have failed with bids for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.

The 23-year old Slovakian international has enjoyed a fine debut season at Inter after signing from Sampdoria a year ago, and interest in him across Europe is high, with a number of top clubs interested in signing him.

However, Inter are unwilling to sell what they regard as a prized asset, especially after securing Champions League football on the last day of the season after beating Lazio, and have reportedly turned down two initial bids of £53 million from the two Manchester clubs.

Skriniar is a defender renowned for his strong tacking and ability to clear the ball quickly away from dangerous positions. He can also play in midfield, and featured a number of times in that position when paying for Slovakia’s under-21s, when he was named his country’s best player at that age level.
