Crystal Palace have signed Spanish goalkeeper Vicente Guaita on a free transfer from La Liga side Getafe, and he will join the club on 1st July.
The 31-year old will join his new side having agreed a three-year deal with the South London team. Guaita kept twelve clean sheets for Getafe last season as he helped them to an eighth place finish, and is expected to compete with Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni for the number one jersey at Selhurst Park next campaign.
Palace wanted to bring in Guaita during the January transfer window but despite a £7million bid were unable to convince Getafe to part with their first-choice shot-stopper. However, this time they have got their man and he becomes Roy Hodgson’s first signing of the summer.
Guaita began his career at Valencia, playing both for their B and senior side, as well as spending a year on loan at Recreativo. He moved to Getafe in 2014, and made 96 appearances for the club in all competitions.
The news was confirmed by the the Crystal Palace official website, with chairman Steve Parrish saying “We are delighted to sign one of La Liga’s best goalkeepers and pleased that we beat off the competition for his signature. We very much look forward to Vicente joining in pre-season training and helping us push on in the Premier League.”
