David Luiz set to sign new Chelsea deal

Centre-back David Luiz is set to sign a new deal with Chelsea.

That is according to The Evening Standard who report that, after months of negotiations, the 31-year old is ready to sign a contract extension, although the length of the new deal is yet to be revealed. Luiz wanted two years, whilst Chelsea have a policy of only offering contract extensions to players over 30.

Luiz is in his second spell with Chelsea, having first joined the side from Benfica back in 2011. He went on to win the Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup during that initial period in West London, before moving to PSG in 2014. He returned after two years away, and has since won the Premier League and FA Cup with the Blues.

He has started 34 matches for the side this season, but is likely to be given a rest for Thursday’s away leg in the Europa League at Dynamo Kiev.
