David Moyes now favourite for the Villa job

Former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes has been installed as favourite by the bookmakers to become the new manager of Aston Villa.

That is according to The Daily Express who report that Moyes is in prime position to take over from Steve Bruce who was sacked on Wednesday, with leading bookmakers pricing him at 6/4. That is ahead of Brentford’s Dean Smith and Paolo Fonseca of Shaktar Donetsk, who are both jointly quoted at 9/2, and Thierry Henry who is 5/1. Meanwhile, last season’s captain, John Terry, is an outsider at 9/1.

Moyes has been out of work since leaving West Ham in the summer. Appointed on a short-term contract when Slavan Bilic was sacked in November last year, he achieved his primary objective which was to ensure the Hammers’ Premier League survival. However, the style of football his team played did not endear him to the club’s supporters, and he was not offered an extension when his deal expired at the end of the season.
