Fabregas move delayed by transfer fee row

Cesc Fabregas’ move to French side Monaco, managed by former Arsenal team mate Thierry Henry, has been delayed by a row about his transfer fee.

Fabregas played what was thought to be his last match for Chelsea on Saturday in their FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest, in the course of which he missed a penalty. The next day he flew to Monaco to negotiate his transfer, which saw him agree to a two and half-year deal, and personal terms, including a signing-on bonus worth more than £9 million.

However, according to The Evening Standard, a stumbling block to the move has now emerged in the shape of his transfer fee. Chelsea want £10 million for the 31-year old midfielder, but, given that he is out of contract in the summer, Monaco are unwilling to pay that much for the Spaniard. Negotiations between the two teams continue.
