Fabregas to be offered a new deal to fend off Man United interest

Cesc Fabregas is set to be offered a new contract by Chelsea in order to stave off a possible Manchester United approach for the midfielder.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona player has 18 months left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, and wants to extend his stay in West London, despite not always being a consistent starter under manager Antonio Conte.

Chelsea had been dragging their feet over a new deal for the Spaniard until this point, but news of a possible United bid has prompted them to act and offer Fabregas the contract extension he wants. The only sticking point appears to be the length of the new deal. Like a lot of top-flight clubs, Chelsea have a policy of only offering one-year contracts to players over 30, and Fabregas passed that mark in May. However, it looks likely Fabregas will continue to play in the blue of Chelsea in the near-future rather than the red of United.
