Fernando Llorente seeks early Tottenham exit

Tottenham forward Fernando Llorente has been linked with a move back to his native Spain and former club Athletic club Bilbao in January.

The 33-year old is out of contract next summer, and, with no new deal on the table for him, he is free to begin negotiating with foreign clubs in January. However, a move to Bilbao could be precipitated because the Basque club is shortly to hold presidential elections reports The Independent, and candidates for the position typically make promises to supporters’ groups in order to win votes.

A popular figure from his earlier career with the club, a move for Llorente would be a popular choice amongst Bilbao supporters, who have endured a disappointing start to the season, with their club currently languishing in 17th place in La Liga.

A £12 million summer signing from Swansea City, Llorente has enjoyed a frustrating spell with Spurs, forced to play back-up to Harry Kane, with his first-team appearances largely limited to cup competitions, and late cameo roles from the bench.
