Fulham told to pay £25 million to sign Swansea defender Alfie Mawson

Fulham have held preliminary discussions with Swansea City about the transfer of their England under-21 international defender Alfie Mawson.

The 24-year old Hillingdon-born player was a bright loan for Swansea in what was otherwise  a disappointing relegation season for them last time out, and has been linked with a return to the Premier League with a number of clubs, including Burnley and West Ham.

However, according to The Daily Mail, Fulham are the favourites to sign him, with a fee in the region of £25 million.

If Fulham are successful in their bid, Mawson will join the list of the impressive other new signings to arrive at Craven Cottage, which include highly rated central midfielder Jean-Michaël Sarri, goalkeeper Fabri and German World-Cup winner André Schurle. In addition they have managed to tie down club captain Tom Cairney to a new long-term contract, whilst Scottish midfielder Kevin McDonald has also agreed a new deal.
