Fulham want to sign Celtic defender Boyata

Newly promoted Fulham are ready to join the race to sign Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata, who is currently in Russia with the Belgian World Cup squad.

The former Manchester City player has 12 months left on his contract at Parkhead, and, reports The Scottish Sun, Celtic boss Brendan Rogers still hopes he will sign an extension. However, his performances with Belgium at the World Cup have drawn attention to his potential, with the likes of Lazio monitoring his situation, and now Fulham are set to join the pursuing pack.

All of this might come as a surprise to City fans who remember the former youth player as one who struggled for consistency during his time at The Etihad, and was sent out on loan to both Bolton Wanderers and FC Twente, before moving to Celtic three years ago. However, he has since matured and improved a lot, becoming a full Belgian international and playing in all three of their group stage games during the World Cup.

The player himself is non-committal saying” “Right now, I am concentrating on the World Cup. I am not thinking about my future.

“I still have a year on my contract and we will see after the summer if I continue with Celtic again.”
