Fulham win race to sign highly-prized Nice midfielder

Fulham have surprisingly won the race to sign Nice midfielder Jean Michael Serri.

The Ivory Coast international has been heavily linked with a move to a number of Premier League clubs, most notably Chelsea and Arsenal, but Fulham have managed to pull off a major coup by signing the 26-year old on a four year deal for a fee of £18 million.

Serri joined Nice in June 2015 from Portuguese side Paços de Ferreira for a fee of €1 million, and went on to play for the French side 121 times, scoring 11 goals in all competitions. Last summer he was on the verge of signing for Barcelona, and a fee had been agreed with all parties, only for the deal to break down at the last minute.

Now he has realised his dream to play for a club at a higher level, although the side he has signed for is probably not one that many would have tipped him to join.

Speaking to the Fulham website Serri said “I’m delighted to be here, it’s a new adventure that starts for me and I’m hoping it will all go well.”

He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
