Gündoğan ready to run down City contract

Ilkay Gündoğan is ready to run down his existing contract at Manchester City, which has 18 moths still to run.

That is according to an interview he gave to German newspaper Bild that although he might be prepared to sign a new contract with City, he feels under no pressure to do so, as he looks to secure the last big deal of his career.

The 28-year old midfielder joined City from Borussia Dortmund back in 2016, and has since gone on to make 94 senior appearances for them, scoring 15 times, winning both the Premier League and League Cup with them last year.

Although a German international, he is of Turkish origin and courted controversy when, together with Mesut Ozil of Arsenal, and Cenk Tosun of Everton, he met the Turkish president Recip Tayyip Erdoğan in London in June, and referred to the man accused of many human right abuses as “my president”.
