Jermaine Defoe agrees to join Rangers

Veteran striker Jermaine Defoe has agreed an 18-month loan deal to join Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

The 36-year old former England and Tottenham striker will join the Glasgow club midway through his current contract with Bournemouth, where he has failed to hold down a first-team place, and will see out the remainder of his three year deal in Scotland.

According to The Daily Mirror, when Rangers fly out to the Canary Islands for warm weather training on Sunday, Defoe will be joining them on the plane as part of the travelling party.

Rangers are currently level on points with bitter rivals Celtic, who they beat in the Old-Firm derby before New Year’s, although they have played one game more.

Defoe re-joined Bournemouth for the second time in July 2017 from Sunderland, but has been restricted to just 4 Premier League appearances so far this season for Eddie Howe’s side.
