Joel Campbell ends seven-year stint at Arsenal

Costa Rican international Joel Campbell has ended his association with Arsenal, seven years after first joining the club sealing a permanent move to newly-promoted Serie A side Frosione on a three-year deal.

Although signed in August 2011, Campbell was unable to get a work permit to play in England initially, and instead embarked on a series of loan moves, first to Ligue 1 side Lorient, then to Real Betis in Spain, and Olympiacos in Greece.

Recalled to Arsenal in the summer of 2014, he did eventually break through to the first team and made 23 appearances over the next two seasons, scoring three goals in the process, although even that spell was punctuated by another loan with Villareal.

He has spent the past two campaigns away from the Emirates at Sporting Lisbon and Betis again, but now his permanent departure has been confirmed by the Arsenal website who said “we would like to thank Joel for his contribution to the club and wish him well for the future”.
