Jonny Evans close to Leicester move

Leicester City are on the brink of signing Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion.

Evans who was captain of the relegated side had a clause in his contract which dictated that he could be sold for a reduced fee in the event that Albion failed to hold on to their Premiership status, and this has resulted in a fee of £3.5 million being agreed between the two clubs for the Northern Ireland and former Manchester United defender. The BBC reports that the fee will be payable in two tranches.

30-year old Evans had previously been linked in the January transfer window with big money moves to both Manchester City and Arsenal, but Albion, battling relegation at the time, refused to sell him. Now, less than six months later, they have been forced to sell him for a pittance of what they could have got for him then, and will be forced to start their re-building plans in the Championship without one of their most experienced players.
