Napoli midfielder Jorginho, who has been heavily linked all summer with a move to Manchester City, is set to reject the Premier League champions in favour of Chelsea instead.
That is according to Sky Sports News who reports remarks from Napoli’s colourful president Aurelio De Laurentiis to the effect that although he had, in effect, agreed a deal with City for the transfer of the Brazilian-born player, Chelsea have effectively gazumped that, both in terms of the transfer fee and wages.
However, there are several sub-plots to this story. One is that De Laurentiis is in negotiations with Chelsea about whether former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri will be allowed to join Chelsea as their new manager, even though Antonio Conte is still In situ.
And then there is Manchester City themselves, who believe, despite what De Laurentiis claims, that the player has told them that he wants to join them, and they have had no indications to the contrary.
