Lascelles signs new Newcastle deal

Good news has been rather thin on the ground for Newcastle fans so far this season.

However, there is a now a ray of light to pierce the general gloom that surrounds St. James Park after it was confirmed that the club captain Jamaal Lascelles has signed a new 6 year deal which will keep him at Newcastle until the summer of 2024.

The 24-year old central defender joined Newcastle in the summer of 2014, and has since gone on to make more than 100 senior appearances for the team, and captained them in their 2016 – 2017 Championship winning season.

He had been linked with a move away from the club last season, with Chelsea heavily linked with a move for the Derby-born defender at one stage, but now immediate speculation about his long-term future should be assuaged by his new deal.

The player told NUFC that “I’m over the moon – its great news to be tied down to Newcastle for a long time. It’s pretty much all I ever wanted: playing in the Premier League in front of amazing fans”.
