Leeds seal loan move for Nketiah

Leeds United have beaten off competition from Bristol City and clubs from abroad to sign forward Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal on loan.

The highly rated England under-21 international impressed during Arsenal’s pre-season tour of America, and Unai Emery had been reluctant to let him leave, preferring that he stayed to provide support to the main strikers at the club. However, with the arrival of Nicolas Pépé at the club, he has been persuaded that it would be best for Nketiah’s development if he were to play regular first-team football this season.

Leeds were in the market for a new striker after selling Kemar Roofe to Anderlecht, now managed by Vincent Kompany on Tuesday. Nketiah is set to compete with Patrick Bamford for the role of main striker with the West Yorkshire club.

Nketiah has made 19 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions, and scored his first Premier League goal in their 3 – 1 win at Burnley on the final day of last season.
