Leicester record signing linked with loan move to former club

Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon have made a formal approach to Leicester City to take their former striker Islam Slimani on loan.

The 30-year old Algerian only signed for Leicester from Sporting two years ago in what was a record fee for the Midlands club of £29 million. However, he has failed to justify his transfer cost, scoring just 8 Premier League goals in his time at the King Power Stadium.  He was loaned to Newcastle for the second-half of last season, but a thigh injury prevented him from making his debut until two months after his stay, and his period in the North-East was cut short after he was given a three match ban for violent conduct following an off-the-ball incident in a match against West Brom.

Despite the Sporting approach, however, Sky Sports reports that Leicester would prefer a permanent sale of Slimani and are ready to set an asking price of around £18 million.
