Liverpool are said to have made a bid of £158 million for Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asencio.
That is according to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo who report that Liverpool have made a shock move to bring the 22-year old to Anfield.
Asencio who is currently with the Spanish World Cup squad in Russia, is one of the most highly rated players in Europe, having contributed 11 goals and six assists last season in what was his second full season at the Bernabeu. However, he struggled to earn a regular place in the starting line-up under Zinedine Zidane, which has led to him being linked with a number of other clubs.
Last month his agent Horacio Gaggioli claimed that Real had already turned down two bids for him worth £130 million.
The Spanish international is under contract with Real until 2023, and has a release clause in his contract set at a £613 million. H
