Luke Shaw set for new long-term United contract

Luke Shaw and his representatives are in talks with Manchester United about a new long-term contract for the England left-back.

This represents a huge turnaround for a player who was regularly criticised last season by his manager for his lack of fitness and application, and who struggled to get game time under Jose Mourinho.

However, the 23-year old has emerged as a regular at Old Trafford this season, scoring his first ever goal in professional football, and even earning rare praise from his manager on occasion.

Now Shaw, who signed for United from Southampton whilst still a teenager, is now only set to earn a new deal but also, according to The Daily Telegraph, will get a substantial pay increase as well, with United set to offer him considerably more than the £100,000 a week he is currently earning.

Shaw forced his way back into the England squad last month, but misses their current Nations Cup fixtures with a thigh injury.
