The Sun reports that Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw is set to sign a new improved deal at the club – just months after his Old Trafford career seemed well and truly over.
22-year old Shaw had struggled at United under manager Jose Mourinho, who criticised the player for his injury records and fitness levels. United have been actively looking for a replacement, with Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Alex Sandro from Juventus amongst those being scouted.
However, in what has been a major reversal of fortune, Shaw, having got into the first team at the start of December, has managed to convince his manager that he has the ability to have a long-term future at the club. He has started five of United’s seven matches so far in 2018.
A one year option on the contract he signed when moving to United as a teenage for £27 million in 2014 has already been taken up, but now he is in line for a new contract which will secure his continuing future at Old Trafford.
