Manchester City set for fresh Sterling talks

Manchester City and Raheem Sterling are set for fresh talks in a bid to secure a deal which will see the England international extend his stay at The Etihad.

The 23-year old is out of contract in June 2020, and City have no clause in his contract which would enable them to trigger a contract extension. That means that unless they can secure a deal, his resale value will dramatically fall once he enters the final year of his contract.

The two parties had reached an impasse over wages, with Stirling, who is currently on £170,000 a week, wanting an increase that would see him join the club’s top earners. City were not willing to go that far and it had been feared that Stirling, who has scored three times for them this season, could leave the club.

However, now Sky Sports reports that both sides may be ready to head back to the negotiating table, with the possibility of a deal being done by the end of September.
