Manchester City weighing up move for Espanyol left-back

manchester city transfer news

Following the news that Benjamin Mendy’s anterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee is likely to rule him out of action for at least seven months, Manchester City may be forced into the transfer market to find a replacement.

Although Fabian Delph filled in at left-back in their victory at Chelsea on Saturday, and there are several other players who could potentially cover for Mendy as well, none of them are natural left-sided full backs and City may want to recruit a specialist to fill the position.

TalkSport reports that one player on their radar is Espanyol full-back Aaron Martin who, at 20 years old, is regarded as one of the rising stars in Spanish football, already having caught the eye with a number of impressive performances this summer.

City have been tracking the player for some time, apparently, and were considering making a move for him next summer. However, with the player’s buy-out clause, which currently stands at £26.5 million set to rise to £35.3 million next year, City may be tempted to try and secure the player in January.
