Manchester United set for first summer signings

The Daily Mail are reporting that Manchester United are ready to make their first summer signing with the capture of £52.5 million Brazilian midfielder Fred from Ukrainian side Shaktar Donetsk, whilst Toby Alderweireld could also be on his way to Old Trafford.

Fred looked set to join rivals Manchester City in the January transfer window before United entered the picture, and his valuation began to rise. Mindful of what happened with the Alexis Sanchez transfer, this time City have decided to walk away rather than get embroiled in a bidding war.

United are looking to seal the deal for Fred before the player joins up with the Brazilian World Cup squad.

Another player who could be joining Fred at Old Trafford is Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, who is available for transfer after refusing to sign a new contract with the North London side, with confirmation that United have made a formal enquiry about the player.
