Arsene Wenger, the long-serving Arsenal boss, has chosen to remain positive about keeping Mesut Ozil at the Emirates.
The 28-year-old German playmaker might accompany Alexis Sanchez through the exit door at the end of this season. There is a strong possibility that both the players might become free agents in the summer of World Cup year – 2018.
Ozil was offered a weekly wage of about £275,000-per-week by the Gunners, but according to The Mirror, the player’s entourage is demanding a whopping £350,000 weekly.
Speaking ahead of the club’s Europa League debut against Cologne, Wenger claimed that he is hopeful that Ozil will soon put pen to paper and the contract talks haven’t ended but they have only “slowed down”.
The French manager said: “The contract talks have slowed down a little bit since August 31, because we need a little breather and to focus on the competition. But, we will slowly get back into that”.
Meanwhile, reports from Germany strongly suggest that Mesut Ozil has made up his mind to sign an agreement with with Manchester United in January 2018.
The former Real Madrid star is reportedly keen for a reunion with his former boss Jose Mourinho.
