Mesut Ozil signs contract extension until 2021

On the day that Arsenal announced their record transfer signing with the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang from Borussia Dortmund, The BBC provided more news to gladden the hearts of Gunners fans with the confirmation that Mesut Ozil has signed a new contract with the club.

The German international, who was out of contract in the summer when he could have left on a free transfer, has now agreed a new three and a half-year deal to stay at the Emirates, with his weekly salary said to be £350,000 a week before tax, which makes him the highest earner in the club’s history.

This brings to an end months of speculation about Ozil’s future, with the player heavily linked to follow in the footsteps of Alexis Sanchez and move to Manchester United. However, the signing of Aubemeyang and the recent arrival at the club of Henrikh Mkhitaryan are said to have persuaded the midfielder about Arsenal’s long-term ambitions.
