Nantes demand fee for missing Cardiff striker

French club Nantes have demanded that Cardiff pay the first instalment for missing striker Emiliano Sala.

The 28-year old Argentine signed for Cardiff in January for £15 million but, tragically, en route to join the Welsh side, the small plane he was carrying disappeared over the English Channel. His transfer was structured into three staged payments, and now, according to The BBC, Nantes have sent Cardiff an invoice for the first tranche of £5.27 million (€6 million) and are threatening legal action if the sum is not settled in 10 days.

Whilst Cardiff have agreed that they will honour the contract and pay the fee, there is some surprise that Nantes have acted with such insensitivity and demanded the payment whilst efforts to recover the plane from the sea continue.

On Monday it was confirmed that a body had been found in the wreckage but it has not yet been confirmed if it is that of Sala or the pilot Dave Ibbotson.
