Crystal Palace winger Jason Puncheon is set to join Middlesbrough on loan for the rest of the season before the transfer window finally shuts on Friday.
That is according to The Evening Standard who report that Palace manager Roy Hodgson has blessed the move because he cannot guarantee the 32-year old Puncheon, who was club captain last season, first team football.
Speaking after Puncheon made his first appearance of the season in Palace’s Carabao Cup victory away to Swansea on Tuesday night, Hodgson said He wants to play more and I have made it clear to him I cannot guarantee that.”
Puncheon has made nearly 150 Premier League appearances for Palace since signing, originally on loan from Southampton, in 2014. However, he missed a large chunk of last season after picking up a cruciate ligament injury in a home match against Crystal Palace, and now finds himself surplus to requirements at Selhurst Park.
In June of this year he plead guilty to charges of possession of an offensive weapon, common assault and a public order offence after an incident outside a nightclub in Reigate last December.
