Rafa Benitez linked with Leicester job

Leicester City may replace Claude Puel with Rafa Benitez if the Spaniard decides not to renew his contract with his current club, Newcastle United.

That is according to The Mirror who report that Benitez has decided to shelve talks over any new deal until Newcastle’s fate this season is decided, with the club currently hovering one point and two places above the relegation zone.

They also report that Benitez is looking for reasons to justify staying on Tyneside, and cite factors such as expanding his squad, and building-up the facilities at the training ground. If Benitez does decide to leave, then there is no shortage of candidates to succeed him, with both Brendan Rogers and ex-Huddersfield boss David Wagner thought to be in the frame.

For their part, Puel is deeply unpopular with the Leicester fans because of the defensive football that his team plays and is amongst the bookmakers’ favourites for the next Premier League manager to lose their job.
