Real set to make last bid to land Pochettino

Real Madrid are ready to try and persuade Mauricio Pochettino one last time to take over the reins at The Bernabeu.

The Spanish giants were heavily linked with the Spurs’ boss in the summer following the departure of Zinedine Zidane after their triumph in the Champions League. However, Pochettino chose to sign a new contract with Tottenham, and Real turned instead to former Spain coach Julen Lopetegui.

However, Lopetegui has endured a difficult start at Real, with indifferent form, surprise losses to Alavés and Levante, and the unwelcome distinction of setting a new record for the number of minutes without a goal.

They go into this weekend’s El Clasico with Barcelona seventh in the table, already four points adrift of their deadly rivals, with Lopetegui almost certain to lose his job if they suffer another defeat.

Antonio Conte had been linked with the Real job as well, but, according to The Sun, the Italian has had no contact with the Spaniards.
