Tottenham launch £23 million bid for French striker

Tottenham Hotspur have launched a £23 million bid for a striker from French club Nice – although their fans might be pleased to learn it is not Mario Balottelli.

Instead it is his team mate, Alasanne Plea, who was second behind Balotelli in the Nice scoring charts least season with 20 goals, and six assists, that is the subject of the offer, with French media outlet RMC suggesting that a deal is getting increasingly close to completion.

The 25-year old striker began his senior career at Lyon but, after failing to command a regular starting place there, moved to Nice in the summer of 2014, where he has subsequently made 134 appearances in all competitions, scoring 44 goals in the process.

A French youth international, he represented his country at all age groups up to under-21, but has notpulled on a blue national shirt for six years.

Spurs have been linked for months with a move for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial, but with the Old Trafford club unwilling to sell him to another Premier League club, Plea is seen as a cheaper, and more available, option.
