Unai Emery appointed as Arsenal new head coach

Spaniard Unai Emery has been appointed the new head coach as Arsenal, after signing a three year deal to replace the departing Arsene Wenger reports The Daily Mail.

The 46-year old who was previously coach at Paris Saint Germain confirmed his happiness on taking the job, saying he is “thrilled to be joining one of the great clubs in the game”.

Emery has pipped former Arsenal player Mikel Arteta to the job, who was widely regarded to be the favourite for the role, mainly because the Arsenal Board were concerned that Arteta, despite being highly regarded as a coach under Pep Guardiola, has never actually managed a club before, and his inexperience was too great a risk.

Emery left PSG despite achieving a domestic treble after the club failed to progress beyond the last 16 of the Champions League. A renowned tactician, he is a good man-manager and will be expected to impose more discipline on an Arsenal side that finished sixth in the Premier League last season, their worst finish ever under Wenger.
