United linked with move for Antoine Griezmann

Manchester United have emerged as candidates to sign French World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann.

The 28-year old forward announced his intention to leave Atlético Madrid last week, and it was widely assumed that he was on the verge of joining Barcelona, with the Catalans prepared to meet his £108 million release clause.

However, that has now been thrown into doubt with suggestions coming from Barcelona that the money they would need to pay for Griezmann could be better spent elsewhere on their squad.

That potentially leaves Griezmann with a dilemma as there are few clubs in Europe able to afford him and his wages.

As The Independent reports, neither Manchester City and Real Madrid are not interested in him, and he is beyond the price range of Juventus. PSG also have their own issues with FFP, whilst Chelsea are facing a transfer ban.

That makes Old Trafford a potential destination with reports that contact has been made between United officials and Griezmann’s representatives.
