Watford make late bid to sign Southampton midfielder

Watford have bid £10 million to sign Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

That is according to The Sun who report that the Hertfordshire club have offered £10 million for the 23-year old and are waiting to find out if Southampton are willing to let the 23-year old leave St. Mary’s.

Ward-Prose, who is renowned for his dead ball delivery and crossing ability, has been at Southampton since he was eight years old, and has played 205 times for the club in all competitions, scoring 12 goals.  An England youth international at all levels up to under-21, he gained his solitary full international cap to date when he came on as a substitute in a 1 – 0 friendly loss to Germany last March.

He appeared in the majority of Southampton’s matches last season but, this campaign, finds himself competing with Mario Lemina and Oriol Romeu for a midfield berth, and their manager Mark Hughes may let the player go if he can identify a suitable replacement in time.
