Everton close in on loan deal for Kurt Zouma as Mina contract talks stall

Everton are closing in on a loan deal for Chelsea centre-back, Kurt Zouma, as they look to solve a defensive crisis ahead of the new season.

The Merseyside club were in advanced talks to sign Barcelona’s Columbia defender Yerry Mina and were also linked with a move for Manchester United’s Argentine Marcos Rojo, but talks on both deals have since stalled.

Now, according to The Daily Mail, Everton are increasingly confident that they can secure the services of Zouma before the season starts to supplement a back line that has only got two fit centre backs in the shape of Phil Jagielka and Michael Keane, with Ashley Williams sent on loan to Stoke and Mason Holgate injured.

23-year old French international Zouma, who was once seen as having a very bright future at Stamford Bridge, spent last season on loan at Stoke, where he was unable to prevent the club stave-off relegation.  He returned to pre-season training with Chelsea last month, but has been unable to force his way into new manager Mauricio Sarri’s plans, and is now set for another spell away from the club.
