Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez in the current transfer window.
And manager Unai Emery did little to dampen speculation when asked about transfer targets after his club’s FA Cup win at Blackpool on Saturday evening. Although he did not give specifics the Spaniard said ““If we have the possibility to sign some important players, we can do it. At left or right wing, perhaps one player can help us in this position”, a description which fits Suarez almost to a tee.
Suárez has played under Emery before, during the 2014 – 2015 season at Sevilla, and the Arsenal manager is an admirer of the 24-year old who moved to Barcelona with a big reputation but has never managed to hold down a regular starting berth at the Nou Camp.
The midfielder has had previous experience of playing in England, having spent two years with Manchester City as an academy player between 2011 and 2013, and it is said that both Arsenal and Barcelona are keen to get the deal done.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
