West Ham close to deal for Arsenal forward

West Ham are close to signing Arsenal forward Lucas Perez in a cut-price deal.

That is according to the Metro who report that a fee of £5 million is set to be paid for a player who cost The Gunners £17 million when they signed him from Spanish side Deportivo La Corǖna two years ago, but who failed to make an impression at The Emirates, despite some cameo appearances from the bench.

He was allowed to return to Deportivo last season on loan and, although he returned to Arsenal at the start of this season determined to fight for his place under new manager Unai Emery, he has now been deemed surplus to requirements in North London, and is set to move across town to join the Hammers, with a three year deal set to be on the table for the 29-year old.

Perez is subject to have a medical on Tuesday and, if he passes it, will be the second Arsenal player to move to West Ham this summer, following in the footsteps of Jack Wilshere.

Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
